Extreme distance and costs have long kept Northwest Greenland one of the least visited areas of the country. Gloriously scenic Uummannaq is the only area with any kind of tourist industry, with just a trickle of travellers and a few organised tours. The isolated east coast of Greenland remains one of the most traditional areas of Greenland, and is also home to some of the most spectacular scenery in the country, with stunning peaks and dramatic fjords providing ample opportunities for first ascents, fantastic hiking and spectacular kayaking.
