Denmark - Bornholm (Chapter)
This is the Bornholm chapter from Lonely Planet’s Denmark guidebook.
Bornholm lies way out east in the Baltic Sea. But it’s not just (relatively) sunny skies that draw the hordes. Mother Nature has bestowed on it arresting chalk cliffs, soothing forests, bleach-white beaches and a pure, ethereal light. Humankind has added medieval fortress ruins, thatched fishing villages and rundkirker (round churches). The island’s ceramic and glassware artisans are famed throughout Denmark, as are its historic smokehouses.
- spot wild deer in the storybook woods of Paradisbakkerne
- tuck into traditionally smoked fish in a Bornholm røgeri, or smokehouse, such as the one in Gudhjem
- shop for one-off creations at the island’s plethora of glass-blowers’ and potters’ studios
- restaurants & accommodation
Coverage includes: Rønne, Åkirkeby, Interior Woodlands, Dueodde, Snogebæk, Nexø, Svaneke, Gudhjem & Melsted, Around Gudhjem & Melsted, Sandvig & Allinge, Hammershus Slot, Hammeren and Christiansø.
