Prague & the Czech Republic - Holesovice, Bubenec & Dejvice (Chapter)
This is the Holešovice and Bubeneč & Dejvice chapter from Lonely Planet's Prague & the Czech Republic guidebook.
A working-class area north of the centre, Holešovice is short on sights and good restaurants, but has some emerging art galleries and trendy clubs. Bubeneč and Dejvice are adjoining residential neighbourhoods north of the Old Town.
- Spend a day touring the excellent modern art museum at Veletržní Palác. This overlooked branch of the National Gallery has fine examples of early modern Czech surrealist and cubist art. Oh, and you might want to see the stuff from Schiele, Klimt, Picasso and Van Gogh too.
- Admire the view over the Old Town and Charles Bridge from the bluff overlooking the Vltava River at Letná Gardens.
- Grab a blanket, pack a picnic lunch and head to Stromovka, central Prague’s largest city park. You can rent in-line skates or bikes, or ramble the grounds and pair the visit with a trip to the Prague Zoo.
