Sandra Bardwell
Sandra wrote a Ph.D thesis on the history of national parks in Victoria at Melbourne's Monash University, and has been writing ever since. She was born in Melbourne and, after graduating, worked as an archivist and then as historian for the National Parks Service and its successors. She has been a dedicated walker since joining a bushwalking club in the early 1960s and became a bushwalking guru through her column in the Melbourne 'Age' and as the author of several guidebooks on the subject.
In 1989 Sandra and her husband upped stakes and retired to the Highlands of Scotland, where they are now settled in a village near Loch Ness. She works for Historic Scotland as a monument warden, writing about everything from prehistoric burial cairns to 20th century wartime defenses. Her work takes her all over the Highlands and some of the neighboring islands. She has now walked extensively in Scotland, and across the border in England and Wales. She has contributed to Lonely Planet's Walking in Italy and Walking in Ireland.
